Menil

The Menil Collection is a public art museum that consists of a group of art buildings and green spaces. The Menil believes that art is essential to human experience and welcomes all visitors free of charge. In the Menil’s galleries, discover artworks spanning from the prehistoric era to the present day in a unique environment that fosters an intimate, unplugged experience.

Admission is always free.

Things to Know

  • Please don’t touch the art.

  • Photography is not permitted inside of museum buildings except in the entryways and hallways.

  • Encourage young children to stay by your side. Strollers pushed by an adult are welcome in the galleries.

  • Backpacks and luggage may be stored at the complimentary coat check.

  • Food and beverages are not allowed in the museum buildings.

  • Guns, weapons, and hazardous materials are not permitted.

Accessibility

All Menil Collection buildings have at least one accessible entrance. The main building's accessible entrance is located at 1533 Sul Ross Street.

Accessible parking is available in the main lot and the lot alongside the Dan Flavin installation at Richmond Hall.

A limited number of wheelchairs are available for visitor use inside the museum’s buildings.

Trained service animals on a leash and under their owner’s control are welcome. Pets and emotional support animals are not allowed in the museum’s buildings.

Group Visits

The Menil welcomes groups of visitors, but does not offer guided tours or allow public lecturing in the galleries. If you'd like to schedule a visit, please notify us one week in advance, by filling out and submitting this form.

School groups must provide one adult chaperone for every ten students.

The bus drop off is located at the main entrance, 1533 Sul Ross Street. Buses may park along Mulberry Street only.

Arriving at the Menil Collection

Parking is free. The main museum lot is located at 1515 West Alabama Street. Additional parking is at 1500 Richmond Avenue. Limited street parking is also available.

There are bike racks at 1515 West Alabama Street, behind the Cy Twombly Gallery, and alongside the gray bungalows across from the back entrance of the main building.

METRO bus stops can be found along Richmond Avenue and Montrose Boulevard.
