Curator Talk: Danielle Bennett on Greek Vase Painting

Curatorial Associate Danielle Bennett discusses the Greek vases in the Menil Collection’s Ancient World gallery, including several works that are on view for the first time. Created between the 8th to 5th centuries BCE, the vases primarily represent the products of workshops in and around Athens and exemplify three key decorative techniques: black-figure, red-figure, and white ground. Their imagery, ranging from Black African warriors to depictions of the Greek gods, continues to tell these stories, as do the objects themselves.
